RedMagic
socials

I took on RedMagic's social media channels and doubled engagement.

Background

Client: Nubia Technology

Agency: Fastlane

RedMagic is a line of smartphones that practically scream "extreme gamer".

I took on their social media accounts at the start of 2019 in the run-up to the launch of the RedMagic 3. That meant thinking up content, writing copy, creating weekly plans, strategising, and handling art direction.

Conflict

Red Magic's Facebook reach in Dec 2018

Before I took the role, RedMagic's social media channels were all punching below their weight. The content wasn't engaging, the branding was inconsistent, and there was no coherent strategy.

Strategy

I used a new approach to get things off the ground:

Engage and interact. Across all channels, the content must make followers take action. Less "Hey, look at this!" and more "Hey, what do you think of this?"

Tailor, but be consistent. Cater content to each social channel, and make sure content is consistent across channels. Educate with Facebook. Use Instagram to craft an aesthetic identity. Strike conversations (and post memes) on Twitter. Always use the same branding voice.

Respond to (almost) everything. Build a community of Red Magic gamers by replying to at least 90% of messages, comments and tweets.

Climax

Boosted reach. Reach on our Facebook and Instagram channels doubled in the first six months. On Twitter, exposure grew from 40K monthly impressions to 185K within three months.

Boosted engagement. I doubled average engagement rates across channels from around 5% to 10%. That meant more reactions, comments, shares and conversations about our products.

Built a community. With growing follower counts across channels, Red Magic became less a brand and more a community of gamers anchored around our core brand values.
